Court Orders Release Of 313 Suspected Terrorists For Lack Of Evidence-DHQ

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has revealed that a Federal High Court in Borno State has ordered the release of 313 suspected terrorists who were previously arrested by the military.

Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, briefed journalists on Thursday regarding military operations nationwide, shedding light on this judicial decision.

Buba explained that the court ruled in favour of releasing the suspects due to insufficient evidence against them following the conclusion of investigations.

Emphasizing the military’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, Buba assured that the military would comply with the court order and transfer the suspects to the Borno state government.

“The court ordered the release for want of evidence after the conclusion of the investigation and other ancillary matters.

“The cases were prosecuted by the Department of Prosecution, Federal Ministry of Justice. Accordingly, they would be handed over to the Borno state government for further action.”

While addressing the media, Buba also provided updates on military operations across the country.

He added that in the northeastern region, troops of Operation Hadin Kai achieved significant success in combating terrorism.

According to him, at least 50 terrorists were reportedly neutralized in Borno and Adamawa states, respectively.

He said operations targeted areas such as Gwoza, Gamboru Ngala, and Bama LGAs in Borno, as well as Madagali LGA in Adamawa state.
