Fawaz Adebisi
The Magistrate Court in Isabo has re-incarcerated a man, Azeez Adetola, despite his earlier grant of bail.
Adetola had initially appeared in court on the 19th of July, 2023, on charges of stealing a sum of N1 million belonging to one Lateef Olawale.
It was alleged that the defendant deceitfully obtained the money, claiming he intended to invest it in a business.
However, he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Consequently, the court ordered him to repay the money. While in prison, he paid a sum of N420,000 and was subsequently granted bail.
Adetola therefore said he’ll pay the remaining money in a month’s time, but unfortunately, he didn’t pay again after release.
On Tuesday, Adetola was brought to court again for not being able to repay his debt, which he has an outstanding N500,000 to balance.
As a result, he was sent back to prison for violating his agreement to settle the debt within a month.
The court therefore ruled for his return to prison with the hope that he would make the payment during his incarceration.
The case has been adjourned to the 6th of September.
