A magistrate court sitting in Ilaro, sentenced two cable thieves ; Hussain Waziri, 36, and Mustapha Aliyu, 33 to one year imprisonment.

The convicts were arraigned on Tuesday,  before Magistrate M.T. Otayemi Osikoya with  two counts of  conspiracy to steal and the theft of armoured cables from Dangote Cement Company.

The convicts pleaded  guilty to both charges.

The court sentenced them to one year imprisonment on each count, with the sentences to run concurrently.

Operatives of  the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Ogun State Command  had apprehended two notorious cable thieves targeting critical infrastructure at the Dangote Cement Factory in Ibese, Ogun State.

The convicts  were caught in the act of cutting and stealing armoured cables belonging to Dangote cement factory in Ibese Yewa-North local government area of Ogun State.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the  arrest occurred during a routine patrol at the Dangote Cement Factory outpost station which are essential for power transmission and distribution within the factory.

The incident occured when the NSCDC personnel on duty at the power plant observed the suspects within the cable yard, a restricted area enclosed by a perimeter fence.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that upon being discovered, Waziri and Aliyu reportedly attempted to flee, engaging the officers with dangerous tools.

Despite the violent confrontation, Aliyu was overpowered and detained on the spot. Waziri initially managed to escape with the stolen cables, but a coordinated intelligence-led search and arrest operation resulted in his capture about an hour later at 4:36am near the Dangote Cement Transport (DCT-I) area, aided by Dangote security guards.

Following their arrests, Waziri and Aliyu were transferred to the NSCDC State Headquarters for a thorough investigation.

During interrogation, both suspects confessed to the crime, detailing their conspiracy and execution of the theft.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant David Idowu Ojelabi, expressed satisfaction with the successful operation and subsequent conviction.

He reiterated the NSCDC’s unwavering dedication to protecting critical infrastructure and eradicating crime within Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.
