The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced plans to inject 1.5 billion litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) into the Nigerian market in December 2025 and another 1.5 billion litres in January 2026, a move targeted at ending periodic fuel scarcity—especially during the festive season.
President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, disclosed the development at the weekend during a visit by the South-South Development Commission (SSDC) to the refinery and the Dangote Fertiliser complex in Lagos.
Dangote said the refinery will begin supplying 50 million litres of petrol daily from December 1, adding that daily production currently stands between 40 and 45 million litres.
“In line with our commitment to national wellbeing, the Dangote Refinery will supply 1.5 billion litres of PMS this month, representing 50 million litres per day,” Dangote said.
“We will supply another 1.5 billion litres in January and increase to 1.75 billion litres in February, equating to over 60 million litres per day.”
He added that the new supply plan should finally put to rest claims that domestic refineries lack the capacity to meet national consumption needs.
In a letter signed by the refinery’s Chief Executive Officer, David Bird, and addressed to the Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), the refinery invited the regulator to begin daily on-site monitoring of its output from December 1.
The company said the move was to ensure “full transparency” and to counter speculations around its actual production capacity.
“We request NMDPRA officials to validate and publicly confirm our daily supply volumes. We are ready to publish our daily production and stock figures across online and print media,” the letter read.
Dangote also revealed ongoing engagements with petroleum marketers to strengthen distribution channels nationwide.
According to him, part of the logistics upgrade includes broadening the company’s fleet of CNG-powered fuel haulage trucks, in line with Nigeria’s gas transition agenda.
“Our priority is to ensure Nigeria receives the products it needs. This is not driven by profit; it is about guaranteeing energy availability—similar to what we achieved in the cement sector,” he added.
Dangote further disclosed that the refinery is advancing its expansion programme aimed at achieving a processing capacity of 1.4 million barrels per day. The expansion is expected to employ more than 100,000 workers, including those at the fertiliser complex.
He emphasised that public support for the refinery project continues to strengthen the Group’s resolve to drive local industrialisation and reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported petroleum products.
Managing Director of the South-South Development Commission, Usoro Offiong Akpabio, praised Dangote’s investment drive, saying it aligns with the Federal Government’s energy stability and industrialisation objectives.
She described the South-South as Nigeria’s “natural energy corridor” with vast oil and gas reserves, maritime assets, agro-industrial capacity and emerging industrial clusters.
Akpabio said deeper collaboration between the Dangote Group and the region could unlock opportunities in: product distribution ; CNG and gas infrastructure ; petrochemicals ; agriculture ; logistics ; and employment creation
“We stand ready to support state-level policy and regulatory reforms across the region to improve ease of doing business and enable Dangote Group’s expansion into gas processing, agro-value chains, renewable energy, logistics and export manufacturing,” she stated.
