A fierce and deadly confrontation unfolded as Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) clashed in the Lake Chad region of Marte, located in Borno State.

Reports indicate that the intense infighting between the two extremist groups resulted in the deaths of more than 100 terrorists.

The hostilities erupted on Saturday around noon, igniting a gun battle that resonated in the area.

Sources revealed that this violent encounter emerged from tensions between the rival factions. Specifically, ISWAP launched an assault in retaliation for the abduction of 60 of its fighters and three Commanders by Boko Haram.

The confrontation was spearheaded by Abou Idris, a former Chief of Operations for the Boko Haram Bakoura faction, who had defected to ISWAP.

According to insiders, casualties were sustained on both sides of the conflict, although the ISWAP faction managed to eliminate a larger number of Boko Haram terrorists.

“As we speak, the battle continues, with a reported death toll exceeding 100 terrorists from both groups combined,” a source disclosed.

This clash underscores the ongoing volatility in the region and the complex dynamics between extremist groups vying for dominance.

The aftermath of this battle will likely have significant implications for the landscape of terror operations in the Lake Chad area and beyond.
