DELTA SDP CRISIS: Governorship Candidate Gbagi Was Never Ready For Polls

The Delta State Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, (SDP), Ambassador Oke ldawene, has taken a swipe at the party,s standard bearer in the March 18 2023 Governorship elections, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, accusing him of being ill-prepared to contest elections into the office of Governor

Reacting to the decision by Gbagi to go to seek redress at the state election petition tribunal, Idawene wondered how a man who scored less than 5,000 votes garnered mostly from his Oginibo and surrounding communities, could not win even his local government, ughelli South, would have the effrontery to use the SDP as the party with which to seek redress

The State SDP Chairman said instead of burying his head in shame for the woeful outing which was a result of his ( Gbagi) sidelining the party hierarchy in the state, becoming the defacto State Chairman, Secretary, and even the National Chairman, in addition to not paying party agents accredited to the various polling units, it is laughable to hear that he went to court

Also, Idawene accused Gbagi of taking over the party,s state office forcefully while armed with security operatives, a development that led to the loss of confidence among party faithful to put in their best in the build-up to campaigns and the elections

Furthermore, ldawene enthused, “Most brazenly, he ( Gbagi), had the effrontery to use the SDP to go to court after losing woefully. That is why we the foundation members of this party decided to resist this by congratulating the Governor-elect, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, and distancing the SDP from any election petition filed by Gbagi. We will not allow a clannish, self-centered, and egoistic individual to destroy the party we laboured to build and bring to the limelight over the years ”

While stating categorically that no notice of alleged suspension has been served on him and he still remains Delta SDP Chairman, Amb Oke ldawene urged law-abiding party members to remain resolute to resist what he described as “viruses” who want to cause disaffection and seize party structures that they met on the ground for their egoistic reasons
