The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has achieved a significant triumph in its continuous fight against drug-related crime.
A baroness and four kingpins have been apprehended, three syndicates have been busted, and a considerable cache of illicit substances has been recovered from hideouts across various parts of Lagos State.
A female syndicate leader, Faith Ebele Nwankwo, was apprehended with multi-billion naira worth of Cocaine, Opioids, and Loud at her residence in Festac area of Lagos.
The operation, carried out by a special unit of the NDLEA, resulted in the recovery of 2,750,000 pills of tramadol, weighing 1,916 kilograms.
Nwankwo had attempted to evade authorities in an unmarked white Honda Pilot SUV loaded with eight cartons of tramadol 225mg.
The NDLEA’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, revealed that a second operation targeted a transnational syndicate dealing in Cocaine and Canadian Loud.
This operation, conducted on August 4, culminated in the arrest of Urama Chinemelum Precious and Adelakun Ilelabayo Oluade.
The duo was tracked to Atlantic Nominee Estate in Lekki – Ajah area of Lagos, where they were found with significant quantities of cocaine and Canadian Loud.
The NDLEA’s success continued with the arrest of Udeh Vincent Ogbonna and Okonkwo Ifeanyi Uzozie, both members of a syndicate involved in the importation, distribution, and diversion of ephedrine hydrochloride—a precursor chemical for methamphetamine production.
This operation, which took place on August 5, culminated in the recovery of $3,000 US Dollars from Ogbonna.
Additionally, NDLEA operations across Ogun, Ondo, Edo, and Nasarawa states resulted in the recovery of over 13,391.8 kilograms of skunk, a potent illicit substance. In Ogun, a notorious drug dealer’s warehouse yielded a staggering 1,955kgs of skunk.
Further successes included the apprehension of multiple individuals in connection with cannabis sativa seizure and/or destruction in Ondo and Edo states.
Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the agency’s officers and men for their unwavering commitment and diligence in the operations.
He applauded the proactivity and professionalism displayed by the Special Unit and the various Commands involved. Marwa urged all NDLEA personnel to remain vigilant and resolute in the face of drug-related criminal activities.
As the NDLEA continues to dismantle drug syndicates and apprehend offenders, these recent operations underscore the agency’s unyielding dedication to safeguarding communities, curbing drug trafficking, and upholding the rule of law.
