Drug Influence Tragedy: 28-Year-Old Man Electrocuted After Touching Live Wire In Ondo

A 28-year-old man met his untimely death in Ondo State on Friday after allegedly taking hard drugs and coming into contact with a live wire.

The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident, emphasizing the dangers of drug abuse among youths.

According to Odunlami, the man, suspected to be under the influence of hard substances, climbed a fence and inadvertently touched the live wire, leading to his electrocution.

While extending condolences, Odunlami used the incident to caution against substance abuse, referencing Nigerian gospel singer Esther Igbekele’s song, Se Normal, as a poignant reminder for youths to avoid the pitfalls of drug addiction.

“It’s saddening that some of our youths have refused to ‘Se Normal’ despite repeated warnings. A young man of 28 years old suspected to have taken hard drugs climbed a fence, touched a live wire, and was electrocuted,” Odunlami said.

The Police spokesperson urged youths to focus on building brighter futures instead of jeopardizing their lives through substance abuse. She further added,

“Ondo State live wires and future (Youths). You have a long way to go, don’t allow drugs to take you away; a lot of people are looking up to you. A WORD is enough for the Wise.”
