The Department of State Services has foiled a kidnap plot and rescued a five-year-old boy, Muhammad Haruna, in Dan Zaki Village, Minjibir Local Government Area.
The DSS Kano Command said its tactical operatives stormed the village at about 7:40 p.m. on February 12, 2026, following a distress report that the minor had been abducted to an unknown destination.
According to the agency, the suspected kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N15 million from the boy’s family.
In a statement issued on Friday, the security outfit disclosed that a 20-year-old suspect, Aminu Mukhtar, was arrested during the operation while allegedly negotiating the ransom with the victim’s father using a GSM line.
The DSS said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect confessed to abducting the child with the intention of collecting ransom.
“In the course of debrief, Mukhtar affirmed that he abducted the victim with a view to collecting ransom,” the statement noted.
The agency added that both the suspect and the rescued child are currently in its custody as investigations continue.
Kidnapping for ransom has remained a major security challenge in parts of the country, with security agencies intensifying operations to curb the menace.
Residents of the community commended the swift response of the DSS, describing the rescue as timely and reassuring amid growing concerns over child abductions in rural areas of Kano State.
