Eat the Party If It’s Food – El-Rufai Mocks APC Leadership

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has taken a swipe at the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the party should have expelled him.

El-Rufai, who recently defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), dismissed his former party, stating that he had lost faith in its direction.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa Service, the former governor declared that the APC had deviated from its founding principles, making his departure inevitable.

“Well, it would have been better for me if they expelled me. I have stated many times that APC would be my last political party,” El-Rufai said.

He further mocked the party, stating that rather than him leaving the APC, it was the party that abandoned him.

“Had they expelled me, they would have saved me the trouble of explaining why I left. As I said, I have not left the APC, but the APC rather left me.

“What next? I quit their party, and I challenge them to eat the party if it is food.”

El-Rufai’s defection to the SDP has sparked political debates, especially as he was once a strong ally of President Bola Tinubu and a major player in the APC’s rise to power.

His departure signals growing discontent among some party members over the current leadership style and policy direction.

The former governor has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the APC’s trajectory, blaming what he termed a misalignment between his values and the party’s current approach to governance.
