At the State House Conference Center in Abuja on Thursday that leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have assembled for an Extraordinary Summit, addressing the ongoing political upheaval in Niger Republic.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the gathering was focused on a comprehensive analysis of recent events within Niger Republic, with a primary objective of charting a coherent path forward following the removal of President Mohamed Bazoum by the junta.
Recall on the Building upon the deliberations of the previous ECOWAS Extraordinary Summit held on July 30 in Abuja, where decisive actions were taken, including imposing targeted sanctions on Niger, particularly directed towards the coupists, this current summit is poised to take further measures.
However, among the central demands of the ECOWAS community is the immediate and unconditional release of President Bazoum, along with his family members, and government officials who have been apprehended by the military forces.
The leaders are expected to deliberate and formulate appropriate strategies to ensure a stable and democratic transition in Niger Republic during these critical times.
