The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign businessman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, famously known as Cubana Chief Priest, before the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that Cubana Chief Priest is facing allegations of abusing the naira, a violation of the Central Bank Act of 2007.
The EFCC’s action follows the recent conviction of popular cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, on similar charges, resulting in a six-month imprisonment sentence.
Cubana Chief Priest will appear before Justice Kehinde Ogundare on a three-count charge, including accusations of spraying and tampering with naira notes at a social event.
The charges, filed on April 4 by EFCC’s prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo and seven other lawyers representing the commission’s chairman, detail instances where Okechukwu Pascal allegedly sprayed funds in the denomination of N500 notes during social events, violating the Central Bank Act.
The EFCC’s legal team alleges that on February 13, 2024, at Eko Hotel in Lagos, Cubana Chief Priest tampered with N500 notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying them for two hours, contravening Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.
Additionally, the charge outlines incidents from 2020 and January 2024 where similar offenses were purportedly committed by Okechukwu Pascal during social events in Lagos.
