The Egba Economic Summit has called for closer monitoring of budget implementation and renewed cultural and economic initiatives to accelerate development in Egbaland.
The resolutions were reached during the group’s 2026 second quarter general meeting held on Saturday in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The meeting, presided over by the President of the Summit, Dr Gbenga Adeoye, took place at a private venue in Ibara GRA and brought together key members of the think tank focused on the socio-economic advancement of Egbaland.
In his welcome address, Adeoye commended members for their commitment and sacrifices towards the development of the Egba people. He also welcomed a new member, Dr Lanre Biobaku, urging him to deploy his expertise in communication management to support the group’s developmental agenda.
“Communication remains critical in shaping perceptions and driving development,” Adeoye noted.
Among the major issues discussed was the need to track the level of implementation of the 2026 budget affecting Egbaland, with members stressing that effective monitoring would ensure that government commitments translate into tangible benefits for the people.
The Summit also resolved to provide advisory support to maximise the economic potential of the annual Lisabi Festival, describing it as a viable platform for boosting local revenue and tourism.
In a move to promote cultural identity and economic value, members advocated the wider adoption of adire as a signature attire for Egba people, including its use as aso ebi during ceremonies and public events.
The meeting further emphasised the importance of maintaining engagement with Egba sons and daughters in positions of authority at both state and federal levels, encouraging them to leverage their offices for the development of Egbaland.
On infrastructure and long-term planning, the Summit agreed to expedite work on its regional master plan, with an update expected from its technical team in May.
It also mandated a member, Builder Abiodun Karunwi, to monitor progress at the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences project and mobilise support for the institution.
The meeting was attended by prominent members of the group, while several others sent in apologies due to prior engagements.
Proceedings ended with the inauguration of two committees tasked with addressing specific developmental priorities in Egbaland.
