Egbin Power Limited has commenced the 11th edition of its annual scholarship programme, with more than 250 pupils and students from its host communities participating in the opening pre-test exercise.
The programme, which is designed to support outstanding pupils and students in primary and secondary schools, is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiative aimed at improving access to quality education and developing young talents within its host communities.
The 2026 edition also reinforces Egbin Power’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 4, which promotes inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities.
Beyond academic support, the programme is expected to expose participants to activities aimed at improving their confidence, discipline, leadership abilities and other essential life skills.
The programme will feature an education fair, boot camp, mentorship sessions and playgroup activities, according to the company.
Speaking on the initiative, the Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power, Mokhtar Bounour, said the company viewed education as a critical investment in the sustainable development of its host communities.
Bounour said Egbin Power’s responsibility extended beyond electricity generation to creating opportunities for young people to realise their potential.
He said, “Education is one of the most powerful and sustainable ways to create that impact, and our scholarship programme is a deliberate investment in the future of our communities.”
The Egbin Power CEO added that the beneficiaries represented future leaders, professionals and change-makers whose development could contribute to stronger communities and a better society.
“Our responsibility goes beyond generating electricity. We also have a responsibility to help generate opportunities, nurture potential and enable dreams.
“Through this programme, we are investing in young people who will become the leaders, professionals and change-makers of tomorrow,” he said.
He said the company’s long-term vision was to make quality education a foundation for individual advancement and community development.
Parents, teachers and community leaders are also involved in the programme, providing support and partnering with the company in monitoring the educational development of participating students.
Egbin Power said the scholarship scheme formed part of its broader community development interventions, which include healthcare, youth empowerment, community infrastructure and human capital development.
The company said the initiatives were designed to create sustainable value in its host communities while strengthening opportunities for residents.
