The Ekiti State Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Home Affairs, Olaiya Atibioke, finds himself suspended for a period of two weeks by the State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji.

The suspension stems from Atibioke’s unapproved departure from a crucial three-day retreat for members of the Ekiti State Executive Council and Permanent Secretaries.

The decision to suspend Atibioke was conveyed through a statement issued by Yinka Oyebode, the Special Adviser to the Governor, on Saturday, August 12, 2023.

The statement highlighted that the commissioner left the retreat venue in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, without obtaining the necessary permission.

Yinka Oyebode emphasized that Atibioke’s absence during the time set aside for commissioners to sign the performance charter was particularly notable.

This absence left the officials puzzled, as the commissioner’s attendance and active participation were expected throughout the retreat.

The governor himself, Biodun Oyebanji, had diligently attended all sessions of the three-day retreat, which commenced on Thursday.

Governor Oyebanji’s commitment to ensuring discipline and high performance within his administration was reiterated during the retreat.

He underscored the administration’s unwavering stance on maintaining high standards and promptly addressing instances of indiscipline or lackluster performance.

The suspension serves as a reminder of the importance of active engagement and adherence to protocols, especially during critical events like retreats aimed at fostering collaboration and enhancing the overall efficiency of the government’s executive council.

The Ekiti State government’s decision sends a clear signal that accountability and commitment are non-negotiable in their pursuit of effective governance
