Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has predicted that the current Governor of the state, Uba Sani’s actions would eventually lead to his downfall.
El-Rufai expressed confidence that the ongoing investigation into his administration by the state House of Assembly would ultimately be ineffective.
Speaking to his associates during Sallah celebrations, El-Rufai appeared untroubled by the probe, suggesting that it would not achieve its intended outcome.
El-Rufai’s comments included a metaphorical warning about the behavior of current Governor Uba Sani.
He advised his followers to avoid direct confrontation with Sani’s aides,
“Support the governor and his cabinet members with prayers for them to do the right thing.
“Don’t feel hurt with what’s going on. When he is done prancing, he will fall off like candy [in a kid’s hand],”El-Rufai stated, using a vivid image to underscore his prediction.
The former governor’s remarks come in the context of heightened political tension in Kaduna State.
In March, Governor Sani had publicly decried the substantial debt inherited from El-Rufai’s administration, which he took over on May 29, 2023.
Sani revealed that the state’s finances were so strained that they were insufficient to cover salary payments.
The situation escalated when the Kaduna State House of Assembly recently instructed Governor Sani to cease repaying loans taken out by El-Rufai’s administration.
An ad hoc committee led by Henry Zacharia found that many of these loans, both domestic and foreign, were obtained without proper due process.
The committee’s recommendations included the assertion that these loans should not be binding on the state, advising the government to stop honouring any obligations arising from them.
The committee’s statement was clear: “That, all Loans (Domestic and Foreign) obtained by the Kaduna State Government between 29th May, 2015 to 29th May, 2023 and found by the Committee to have been obtained without due process are not binding on the State and the State Government should henceforth stop honoring all. Limit obligations arising from them.”
PLATFORM TIMES reports that this directive has added another layer to the complex political and financial landscape in Kaduna State, intensifying the scrutiny on both El-Rufai’s tenure and Sani’s current administration.
