Ember Months: Osun FRSC urges caution, safe driving

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Osun State Command has urged road users to adopt safe driving practices during the “ember months” to help reduce road accidents across the state.

This appeal was made by Osun Sector Commander, Sokumbi Adeyemi, during a press briefing on Tuesday in Osogbo.

Adeyemi emphasised the importance of passengers familiarising themselves with highway safety regulations to help protect lives.

The event, themed “Speak Up Against Dangerous Driving: Road Crashes Kill More Passengers than Drivers,” highlighted the critical role passengers play in ensuring road safety.

Adeyemi also encouraged passengers to speak out when drivers engaged in unsafe behaviour, helping to prevent potential accidents.

He stressed that road safety is a shared responsibility, urging everyone to play a part in curbing road abuses.

The FRSC, he noted, has developed strategic policies and partnered with key stakeholders to create a unified approach to meeting its safety goals.

“The advocacy key is working in the area of sensitisation of road users and we will not relent in ensuring the safety of lives and properties in the state.

“I want to say that the command is advising road users against driving at night and will do all things to ensure the safety of lives in case of any eventuality,” Adeyemi said.

He warned road users to ensure they use their seat belts, proper passenger manifest documentation, and also support responsible driving.

Adeyemi, however, said the command would not hesitate to deal with any offenders that violate the road traffic act when apprehended before, during and after the ember months.
