Leicester City manager Steve Cooper has said Wilfred Ndidi is in good state after returning from international break.

Ndidi was part of Nigeria’s squad that was held hostage at the Al Abaq Airport in Libya last weekend.

The Super Eagles players were stranded at the remote airport for several hours after their plane was diverted from the original destination in Benghazi.

Leicester City will be guests of Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.

Cooper confirmed they were in contact with Ndidi throughout the horrific ordeal in Libya.

“He is fine, that’s the most important thing. He is back with us and safe and well. We were in close contact with him throughout the situation and he kept us updated,” Cooper told The BBC.

“Everyone was in contact, myself included, and thankfully the situation got resolved. He was back with us soon after and has trained since. He is in a safe place and that includes the mental side of it as well.

Cooper also revealed Ndidi has trained with his teammates since his return and is ready for action again.

“He is more than happy to get back to business as usual. He trained yesterday and will train today and will be ready for the game at the weekend.”
