EPL: Santo provides update on Super Eagles duo after Libya nightmare
Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has given an update on the Super Eagles duo of Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi after their ordeal in Libya.
Speaking to the media on Friday ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace at the City Ground this weekend, Santo described what Aina and Awoniyi went through in Libya as a mess.
Both players, along with their Super Eagles teammates, were recently held hostage for 18 hours in Libya before a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Mediterranean Knights.
The match was later cancelled by the Confederation of African Football.
Reacting to Aina and Awoniyi’s ordeal, Santo told reporters at his pre-match press conference: “They have arrived; they are working normal. As soon as it happened, the club reached them and tried to see what was going on.
“It was a mess but it was important to get them back as soon as possible. They arrived a couple of days ago; they are working normal.”
