Controversial street-hop artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been convicted on a three-count charge and sentenced to three months imprisonment with an option of a N30,000 fine.
The musician was found guilty by a Magistrate Court sitting in Ifo, Ogun State, for assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
Portable was earlier arrested in March 2023 after he physically attacked a police inspector and obstructed officers while they attempted to serve him an arrest warrant.
According to court proceedings, the charges read that Portable, along with others now at large, assaulted Inspector Hammed Moshood at Odogwu Bar, Oke-Osa, Ilogbo, causing injury to the officer’s nose. The act contravenes Section 4 (1) of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law of Ogun State, 2017.
The second charge stated that the musician violently resisted arrest by officers after being served a police invitation over prior offences.
The action was said to violate Section 197 of the Criminal Code Law of Ogun State, 2006.
The court had earlier granted Portable bail, but he reportedly jumped it, prompting the court to order his re-arrest.
He was eventually apprehended last Thursday and remanded in custody until his appearance in court on Tuesday, where he was convicted.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Correctional Service, Owolola Odukoya, confirmed Portable’s detention at the Ilaro Correctional Centre from Thursday to Tuesday.
The court, after finding him guilty, sentenced him to three months imprisonment on all three counts.
However, the sentence came with an option of a N30,000 fine, which the musician reportedly paid before regaining his freedom.
