The Minister of Power,Adebayo Adelabu has ignited hope among Nigerians by assuring them of imminent improvements in the nation’s power supply landscape.

Speaking to the press at the Ladoke Akintola Airport, Alakia in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Friday, August 25, 2023, Adelabu made a commitment to establish a robust foundation for 24/7 electricity availability in Nigeria during his tenure.

Amidst a warm reception from political allies, supporters, and loved ones, the minister emphasized the pivotal role of his ministry in Nigeria’s economic advancement, acknowledging its historical underperformance.

Adelabu, however, calmed the populace by asserting that the transformation they’ve been yearning for in the power sector is now at hand.

He said, “While we recognize this won’t be an overnight achievement, we firmly believe that a strong foundation will pave the way for subsequent advancements.”

Adelabu outlined a tangible roadmap for progress, revealing, “Within six months to a year, discernible enhancements in the power sector will be evident.”

He spotlighted the Zungeru hydropower plant in Niger state, a colossal project nearing completion, projected to add 700mw to the national grid, making it Sub-Saharan Africa’s largest facility of its kind. With a nod to existing dams like Kanji and Sororo, Adelabu’s vision aims to inaugurate the Zungeru plant, a remarkable step toward attaining grid stability.

The minister acknowledged the sector’s past failures and wasted resources but affirmed his commitment to ushering in an era of reliable power supply, harnessing his expertise and determination.

Adelabu unveiled his plans to convene with sector stakeholders within the next two weeks to a month, an exercise aimed at meticulous evaluation and strategic planning.

As Nigerians await this transformative journey, Adelabu’s assurance offers a glimmer of optimism for a nation longing for a luminous future.
