Ogun State Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has urged members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Information Chapel to leverage their professional platform to expose and shame perpetrators of domestic violence in society.

She emphasized the urgency of addressing this societal blight during the Year 2025 Ramadan lecture themed ‘Domestic violence, growing global concern, Islamic panacea to the rescue’.

Addressing attendees at the event held at the mini Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Engr. Salako-Oyedele stressed that domestic violence impacts everyone, whether as witnesses, victims, or perpetrators.

Quoting Islamic teachings that forbid such acts, she stressed the need for collective action beyond mere condemnation.

“As professionals, you have a pivotal role in highlighting this challenge and transforming it into a societal taboo,” Engr. Salako-Oyedele asserted.

“Let us blacklist and expose all perpetrators without hesitation. Those who perpetrate domestic violence should face public scrutiny and shame.”

She commended the NUJ Information Chapel for organizing the annual Ramadan lecture and acknowledged their dedication in ensuring its success.

She also expressed gratitude to the guest lecturer, emphasizing the importance of spreading Allah’s word and praying for his continued guidance and protection.

Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion and National President of ACCOMORAN, Alhaji Samsideen Apelogun, highlighted the devastating impact of domestic violence on homes, women, and children.

He called for concerted efforts to combat this pervasive issue plaguing Nigerian society.

Delivering a thought-provoking lecture, Chief Imam Abdul Hakeem Abdul Lateef of the Lagos State House of Assembly delineated various forms of domestic violence, including physical, psychological, sexual, and self-induced violence.

He attributed the root causes to societal factors such as childhood trauma, broken homes, peer influences, and mental health issues.

In his welcome address, Femi Osipitan, Chairman of the NUJ Information Chapel, emphasized the chapel’s commitment not only to the welfare of its members but also to their spiritual well-being.

He encouraged journalists to embody love, philanthropy, and peace during and beyond Ramadan, echoing the principles of Allah.
