In a significant move aimed at enhancing healthcare accessibility for all Nigerians, particularly women and children, the Federal Government has launched an ambitious initiative to revitalize 17,600 primary health care centres across the nation.

The revelation came during the formal launch of the Women’s Optimal Health Framework in Kampala, Uganda, by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, over the weekend.

Senator Tinubu highlighted that the government’s revitalization efforts are geared towards addressing infant and maternal mortality, with a broader goal of improving the life expectancy of the entire Nigerian population.

The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohaneny, represented Senator Tinubu during the event.

Notably, the Federal Government has secured a grant from an international donor agency to train midwives and front-line health workers, fostering collaborations to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Senator Tinubu’s office has overseen the immunization of 4.7 million girls against cervical cancer since October 2023.

This nationwide effort was made possible by introducing the Human Papilloma Vaccine into the national routine vaccine schedule, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present Administration.

Senator Tinubu emphasized the importance of a multi-sectoral approach to advancing women’s health, underscoring the establishment of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).

RHI focuses on empowering Nigerian women across various sectors, including health, agriculture, education, economic empowerment, and social investment.

Furthermore, Senator Tinubu praised the Ugandan First Lady and Minister for Education and Sports, Honourable Janet Museveni, for leading the Optimal Health Initiative.

She encouraged African women to embrace this research-based program, aiming to contribute to the life expectancy of women and address gender equality issues in the region.

In response, Honourable Janet Museveni expressed optimism that the Women’s Optimal Health Framework would serve as a gateway to strengthen partnerships for the betterment of women’s health and general well-being in Africa.

She commended Senator Tinubu as a beacon of hope for Nigeria and the entire African Sub-Region, applauding her commitment to the growth and development of women and children.
