FG, Ondo vows to tackle incessant sea incursion in Ayetoro

The Federal Government has stated the incessant sea incursion ravaging the Ayetoro community in the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State will soon be curtailed.

While expressing its determination to collaborate with the state government over the environmental challenges confronting the theocratic community, the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, assured that Ayetoro will be restored.

Disclosing this during the Federal Ministry of Works town hall meeting/stakeholders’ engagement on the alignment of the Ondo State 63km segment of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, the Minister stressed that after the governorship election, the situation in the community will be accessed.

Umahi, however, maintained that the federal government will not tolerate contractors not going to site after a contract has been awarded.

“You are given a contract; you are waiting for mobilisation. The Procurement Act says you can’t maintain a mobilisation fee. It did not say shall pay or must pay.

“It is within the convenience of the client, and when they are paid, the contractor is expected to show evidence of financial capability.

“We are not distracted. I take responsibility for every failure, any road that is bad, any road that is ongoing and not being constructed. But be assured that we are not sleeping.”
