The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in partnership with Wardiere Oakmount Development — a real estate firm based in Houston, Texas and Abuja — has launched an initiative to empower 4,000 farmers in the Federal Capital Territory.

Tagged Operation Feed the Nation, the scheme will provide registered farmers in Kuje, Abuja, with seedlings and farmland to cultivate cashew, cocoa, maize, Malaysian palm trees, rice, millet, yam, and beans, among other crops.

A statement signed by the Chairman of Wardiere Oakmount, Kunle Ilori, and made available to journalists on Friday, said the collaboration is aimed at supporting President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to achieve food sufficiency and reduce Nigeria’s reliance on external food sources.

Ilori described the project as part of the firm’s contribution to the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration, adding that the company’s broader target is to impact 25,000 low-income Nigerians across the country.

“My joy knows no bounds with the commencement of this initiative, with the help of the forward-looking government of President Bola Tinubu, to create an enabling environment and provide seedlings for farmers to plant and contribute to Nigeria’s food security,” he said.

He revealed that the inspiration for the programme came as a divine directive, noting that while government efforts are commendable, private sector participation is crucial for national development.

Ilori also lauded Tinubu’s dynamic approach to national issues, describing his fearlessness as critical to Nigeria’s growth.

Beyond the agricultural initiative, the chairman raised concerns over the recent Cbex scam, where Nigerians reportedly lost significant sums to a fraudulent scheme.

He called on the Federal Government to strengthen public sensitisation through the National Orientation Agency to prevent future occurrences.

“It has come to my attention that a fortune was lost to a large-scale scam tagged Cbex recently. While I sympathise with the victims, I urge the National Orientation Agency to intensify efforts in educating citizens on safe investment practices,” he said.

Ilori further advised young Nigerians to invest in real estate, describing it as a sector with guaranteed returns.

“Real estate is the only business I know where you can have a 100 per cent return on investment,” he said.
