First Lady Oluremi Tinubu celebrated the arrival of the first baby of the new year, Boluwatife Johnson, at the National Hospital in Abuja.
The birth took place at 12:03 am, marking a joyous start to 2024.
Addressing the significance of maternal health, the First Lady urged expectant mothers to prioritize their well-being and emphasized the importance of knowing their HIV/AIDS status to prevent mother-to-child transmission.
In a statement from her spokesperson, Busola Kukoyi, Mrs. Tinubu stressed the need for a collective effort, urging well-meaning Nigerians to collaborate with the government in improving healthcare facilities across the nation.
Mrs. Tinubu’s visit extended beyond the first baby, as she interacted with other newborns in the hospital, bringing gifts and encountering a set of conjoined twins.
Expressing the commitment of her pet project, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), she offered support for the surgical separation of the conjoined twins after consulting with the Chief Medical Director, Prof Mohammed Raji Mahmood.
In her advocacy for child rights and protection, the First Lady highlighted the collaboration between RHI and UNICEF to ensure the registration of all births in Nigeria.
She also issued advice to nursing mothers, encouraging proper care, immunization, exclusive breastfeeding, and providing nutritious weaning food for optimal brain development.
Joined by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the Vice President’s wife, Hajia Nana Shettima, Minister of Women Affairs Hon Uju Kennedy Ohaneye, Mrs. Umahi, wife of the Minister for Works, and Mrs. Bello Matawalle, wife of the Minister of State for Defence.
Mrs.Tinubu called for continued support to sustain the legacy of the National Hospital and enhance healthcare delivery in the country.
