Fix Wole Soyinka Train Station Road, MURIC Tells Abiodun

Daud Olatunji

The Ogun State Chapter of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has issued a strong call to the state Governor, Dapo Abiodun, highlighting the urgent need to rehabilitate the deteriorated road leading to the Wole Soyinka Train Station in Abeokuta.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that the road has become almost impassable despite the pleas of the residents of the area .

Joining other people and groups that have called Abidoun’s attention to the road, MURIC in a statement jointly signed by its State Chairman, Alhaji Tajudeen Jimoh Alao, and the State Secretary, Ambassador Olaleye Rasheed Damilare, described the condition of the road as unbefitting of the high standards associated with the train station.

The statement reads: “members of the executive of MURIC were at the Wole Soyinka Train Station, Abeokuta, on Saturday, 11th May 2024, to welcome the Executive Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola, who was in Abeokuta for an event.

“We found the condition of the only road that led to the train station appalling. We find it hard to believe that the road that links this state-of-the-art train station could be in such a poor state.

“The Ogun State Chapter of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), humbly brings this pressing matter that affects the well-being and convenience of the good people of Ogun State to the governor’s attention.

“The road is in a deplorable state, causing disruptive and frustrating moments for commuters and residents alike.

“As a government that prioritizes the welfare and comfort of its citizens, we urge Prince Dapo Abiodun to take immediate steps towards fixing this critical infrastructure.

“The Wole Soyinka Train Station is a vital transportation hub that connects our state to other parts of the country, and it is only fitting that the road that leads to it is in good condition.

“We acknowledge the efforts of the Abiodun administration in developing other areas of the state, but we believe that this particular issue requires urgent attention.

“A good road network is essential for economic growth, social development, and the overall well-being of our people.

“By fixing the road to Wole Soyinka Train Station, the administration will not only be responding to the needs of the people but also demonstrating a commitment to their welfare and comfort.

“This will, in turn, enhance the legitimacy of the state government and the trust that the people have in it.

“We, therefore, appeal to the governor to take all necessary steps to repair and maintain the road to Wole Soyinka Train Station.

“We are confident that any prompt action at this material time will bring relief to the people and further cement Dapo Abiodun’s legacy as a responsive and people-oriented leader.

“As we close the curtain for this discourse, we encourage all security outfits to have their patrol vehicles at the train station. This will impose confidence in the minds of all travelers using this noble means of transportation.”
