A  torrential downpour in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State has reportedly swept away four individuals, including a mother and her child.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that this development has caused  widespread panic and prompting a desperate search by family members and local authorities for the missing victims .

The heavy rains, which began on Thursday and continued unabated through Saturday, unleashed severe floods across the industrial community, resulting in tragic consequences.

Among the missing are a mother and her child, who were reportedly returning from a church service when they were caught in the deluge.

According to sources within the community, the incidents occurred at various locations, amplifying the fear and confusion among residents.

“Two persons were swept away in Nnewichi, one along Nnobi Road, and another along Nnewi-Onitsha Road,” a local source disclosed.

“The mother and child were on their way home from church when the floodwaters engulfed them.

Since Thursday, their family members have been frantically searching for them.”

The President-General of Nzuko-Ora (Nnewi Town Union), Dr. Madu Atueny, acknowledged the reports but indicated that confirmation of the incidents was still pending.

“I have heard about the unfortunate events, but we are yet to verify the details fully,” Dr. Atueny stated.

Meanwhile, the state police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the authorities would launch an investigation into the matter.

“We are aware of the situation and will be conducting a thorough investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding these incidents,” Ikenga assured.
