The Ogun State Police Command has arrested four suspected cultists over alleged armed robbery, assault, unlawful possession of a firearm and theft of an iPhone 14 Pro Max in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects—Samson John (25), Olufowora Michael (28), Odeh Samuel Ejeh (25), and Olajide Jeremiah (28),were reportedly apprehended following a petition lodged at the Ilaro Divisional Police Station at about 11:30 p.m. on April 16, 2026.
Confirming the arrest on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the operation followed a swift response by operatives after the complainant reported a violent invasion of his residence earlier that same day.
According to the police, Samson John and six other accomplices allegedly stormed the victim’s home at about 1:00 p.m., armed with an axe and other dangerous weapons, where they reportedly assaulted and threatened him before dispossessing him of his iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Babaseyi said operatives acted on credible intelligence and promptly tracked down the suspects, leading to their arrest and recovery of exhibits.
“Upon swift response and subsequent investigation by operatives, the suspects were apprehended.
“During the operation, one locally made pistol, an axe, suspected charms, and the stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max were recovered,” the PPRO stated.
He added that preliminary investigations linked the suspects to cult-related activities and other violent crimes within the area.
According to him, the arrested suspects are currently in custody while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang who fled during the operation.
He further disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their prompt response and professionalism in dismantling the suspected gang.
Ojajuni reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for cultism and violent crimes, warning that criminal elements would continue to face decisive action across the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely information, stressing that community cooperation remained critical in tackling insecurity.
