Fubara Prostrates, Begs Wike for Forgiveness Amid Rivers Political Crisis -Sources

Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has reportedly visited the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in a dramatic attempt to reconcile following months of intense political hostilities.

According to reliable sources, the meeting took place at Wike’s Abuja residence on Friday, April 18, and was facilitated by Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and former Ogun Governor, Olusegun Osoba.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that Fubara prostrated before his predecessor, gripped his legs, and repeatedly called him “My Oga” in a display of remorse and submission. The encounter reportedly lasted into the early hours of Saturday, April 19.

While details of the discussion remain closely guarded, sources hinted that Wike allegedly demanded Fubara brief his political allies in Rivers State — particularly elders — on the true nature of their feud.

Confirming the meeting, Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, told Premium Times that he was aware it occurred but was not privy to the content of the conversation.

Fubara’s spokesperson, Nelson Chukwudi, declined to comment, directing inquiries to the state’s Information Commissioner, who could not be reached.

The reconciliation effort follows a turbulent chapter in Rivers politics. Fubara, who ascended to power with Wike’s backing, fell out with his predecessor within six months.

The rift splintered the State House of Assembly and culminated in President Bola Tinubu imposing emergency rule in the state on April 14, suspending Fubara and several elected officials for six months.

The Supreme Court had earlier ruled in favour of Wike’s loyalists, reinstating 27 lawmakers who defected from the PDP to the APC and invalidating actions taken by the Fubara administration, including local government elections.

The Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, had since served an impeachment notice on Fubara and his deputy, Dr Ngozi Odu, accusing them of financial misconduct, illegal appointments, and obstructing legislative duties.
