The National Youth President of Afenifere, Prince Eniola Joseph Ojajuni, has confirmed that he was abducted by suspected Fulani herdsmen on February 17 while traveling to Abuja.
Ojajuni, who is currently receiving medical treatment, recounted his ordeal in a Facebook post on Friday, revealing that the incident occurred around 2 pm in Akunnu Akoko, Ondo State.
“I was kidnapped by Fulani herdsmen on the 17th of February on my way to Abuja in Akunnu Akoko around 1:42 pm,” he wrote.
“I’m undergoing serious medical treatment. Besides, I want to use this opportunity to thank everyone who supported me massively—financially, spiritually, and by calling my dear wife for words of encouragement.
“Once I’m out of the hospital bed, I’ll come out to appreciate you all specially.”
According to reports, Ojajuni regained his freedom after his family paid a ransom of at least N17 million to his abductors.
A family source revealed that his wife personally delivered the ransom to the kidnappers in Akure after 12 days in captivity.
Despite repeated pleas, the Nigerian government did not provide financial assistance, and security agencies were unable to track the kidnappers until the ransom was paid.
“We did not hear anything from the government despite repeated promises, and the police efforts did not yield results. We had no choice but to raise funds ourselves,” a source told SaharaReporters.
Prior to Ojajuni’s release, Afenifere had condemned the deteriorating security situation and called for urgent intervention from the Ondo and Kogi state governments.
The group had urged authorities to act swiftly, noting that the abduction took place near the Ondo-Kogi state boundary.
The Afenifere Youth Council’s National Secretary, Abiodun Aderonhunmu, disclosed that the kidnappers had initially demanded a N100 million ransom before negotiations brought the amount down.
Ojajuni, who remains at an undisclosed location for security reasons, assured Nigerians that he would formally appreciate those who stood by him once he fully recovers.
