In the wake of the tragic gas explosion incident that occurred in the Ita-Oshin area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, Gasco Marine, the company involved in the incident, has pledged unwavering support for the families of the victims.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, April 27, 2024, resulted in the demise of an employee who was serving as a motor mate accompanying the driver of one of Gasco Marine’s gas delivery vehicles.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps ,only one person died while four others sustained injury .
The company in a statement obtained by PLATFORM TIMES added that the explosion caused significant destruction to properties in the surrounding area, leaving the community reeling from the aftermath.
In a heartfelt statement issued by Gasco Marine, the company expressed deep sadness over the unfortunate event and extended sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and all those affected by the incident.
The company assured that every effort is being made to provide support to the affected families during this difficult time, emphasising the priority placed on the safety and well-being of employees and the communities served by Gasco Marine.
Gasco Marine reaffirmed its commitment to adhering to stringent safety standards and vowed to continuously strengthen its health and safety policies to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
The company acknowledged the swift response of emergency teams, including personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Control Agency, the Nigerian Police Force, and representatives of the Ogun State Government, who were quick to provide assistance at the scene of the incident.
Gasco Marine confirmed the activation of its emergency response protocols and assured full cooperation with relevant authorities in conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
The company pledged to keep all stakeholders updated as the investigation progresses, with a primary focus on providing support to the affected families and ensuring the highest levels of safety across its operations.
The statement read “ We regret to announce an unfortunate incident involving one of our gas delivery vehicles on Saturday, April 27, 2024, in the Ita-Oshin area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
“The incident resulted in the untimely demise of an employee who was serving as a motor mate accompanying the driver. It also caused destruction of properties in the surrounding area. We are saddened by this unfortunate event. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family of the deceased, and the affected individuals whose properties were affected.
“ We are doing everything we can to support them during this difficult time. At Gasco Marine, the safety and wellbeing of employees and the communities we operate in are of utmost priority.
“We also take this opportunity to assure our stakeholders that we strictly adhere to all safety standards. We remain committed to continuously strengthening our health and safety policies to prevent such unfortunate incidents from occurring in the future.
“We commend the emergency response teams, including personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Control Agency, the Nigerian Police Force, and representatives of the Ogun State Government, who were promptly on-site to assist.
“ We at Gasco Marine have also activated our emergency response protocols and are cooperating fully with relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
