The Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has flagged off the sale of fertiliser for the 2025 wet farming season, as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity and support farmers across the state.

Speaking at the flag-off on Thursday, Governor Yahaya disclosed that the state government has procured a total of 10,000 tons of NPK 20:10:10 fertiliser at the cost of N44,000 per bag, which will be sold to farmers at a subsidised rate of N27,000 per bag, a 60 per cent discount, to ease their financial burden and ensure access to essential inputs.

He said timely access to fertiliser is critical to increasing crop yields, strengthening food security and fostering economic growth in the state.

Governor Yahaya also directed the State Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperatives, in collaboration with security agencies to strictly monitor the sales and distribution process to prevent diversion and ensure that the fertilisers reach the targeted beneficiaries, particularly grassroots farmers.

He also urged farmers to respect grazing reserves and cattle routes and advised herders to avoid grazing on farmlands prior to the harvesting period, in order to prevent conflict and protect crops.

Earlier, the state’s Commissioner for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperatives, Dr Barnabas Malle, appealed to all local government council chairmen and stakeholders to cooperate with the ministry officials for the effective and smooth implementation of the fertiliser sale exercise.

The State Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Absalom Akwaras Lansibol, acknowledged the key role played by the Gombe State government in ensuring timely and affordable access to quality farm inputs for farmers.
