Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State swore in the 44 elected local government chairmen and 484 counsellors in Kano on Sunday, with an urgent directive to them to resume offices on Monday.

The elected officials took the oath of office, administered to them by the state Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi, at the Kano State Government House.

The elaborate ceremony, which attracted thousands of the New Nigeria Peoples Party supporters, was held at Africa House, Government House, in the presence of Governor Yusuf.

The governor congratulated the newly elected officers and described their victory as a milestone towards the journey to consolidate democracy in the state.

He commended KANSIEC for conducting free, fair, and peaceful elections, adding that the commission’s efficiency ensured timely entitlements for council members, demonstrating his administration’s commitment to transparency.

Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude to the people of Kano for participating in the elections in an orderly manner, describing their conduct as exemplary.

He also acknowledged the crucial role of security agencies in maintaining peace during the polls.

Governor Yusuf further tasked the newly elected chairmen to work with honesty, integrity, and transparency.

He emphasised the need for accountability, urging them never to betray the trust reposed in them by the electorate.

Governor Yusuf directed the newly elected chairmen and counsellors to assume duty on Monday, October 28, 2024.
