Governing Council Celebrates FG’s Adoption Of TASUED, Says New Era Begins

The Governing Council of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, has lauded the Federal Government’s recent takeover of the institution, describing it as a landmark development for Nigeria’s education sector.

Speaking on behalf of the Council, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Prof. Rahamon Bello, expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for formalising the transition of the Ogun State-owned university to federal ownership.

“We sincerely appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for this historic decision. By taking over this institution—a great university named after an iconic educationist—the Federal Government has affirmed its commitment to advancing Nigeria’s educational excellence,” Prof. Bello said.

Founded as the country’s first specialised university of education, TASUED has been a pride of Ogun State. Stakeholders say the federal adoption is a strong vote of confidence in the university’s legacy and future potential.

“With federal support, TASUED is now better positioned to fulfil its mission as a pioneer in teacher education, not only in Nigeria but across Africa,” Prof. Bello added.

He noted that the transition would unlock more funding, improve infrastructure and expand academic opportunities, positioning the university as a global model for teacher education.

The Governing Council also commended the Ogun State Government for facilitating the handover, while assuring staff and students of better prospects under the new arrangement.

“All staff will now fall under the Federal Ministry of Education, with prospects for improved welfare. Students, too, will gain access to federal initiatives such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund,” he said.

Prof. Bello further described the development as a tribute to the late Dr. Tai Solarin, the university’s namesake, and the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, for their educational legacies.

Currently ranked as Nigeria’s top university of education and second in Africa, TASUED is expected to benefit significantly from its new federal status.

“This marks a new era for TASUED,” Prof. Bello said. “With national support, we are poised to achieve even greater heights.”
