Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd), has advised Nigerians not to hastily judge the performance of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Gowon shared this sentiment during a meeting with State House correspondents after his discussions with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Gowon emphasized that it was premature to deliver a final verdict on the Tinubu-led government. He urged Nigerians to give the president time, acknowledging the challenges faced by the administration.

Reflecting on his own experiences, Gowon noted that criticism is inevitable for leaders, but understanding the complexities beneath the surface is crucial.

During their talks, the two leaders addressed the ongoing crisis in ECOWAS, with Gowon, one of the founding fathers of the regional bloc, emphasizing the need for resolution.

Dismissing reports of his refusal to attend a recent ECOWAS conference as miscommunication, Gowon clarified that he and Tinubu discussed plans regarding ECOWAS and resolved the matter.

Gowon concluded by expressing optimism about resolving the ECOWAS issue and hinted at a potential announcement later in the day.
