The Grand Chief Imam of Oyoland, Fodhilatu Shaykh Imam Bilal Husayn Akinola Akeugberu, has commended the immediate past leadership of the Muslim Community of Oyo State for its sacrifices and contributions to the growth of Islam and the welfare of Muslims in the state.
Akeugberu particularly praised the outgone MUSCOYS Chairman, Alhaji Isiaq Kunle Sanni; Secretary-General, Alhaji Abidemi Siyanbade; and renowned Islamic scholar, Alhaji Dr Daud Amoo Alaga, describing them as committed servants of the Muslim Ummah whose years of service had left lasting footprints in the community.
The Grand Chief Imam, in a statement issued on Monday by his Director of Media and Publicity, Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade, said the achievements recorded by the former leaders came at the cost of considerable personal sacrifices.
He noted that their service required the investment of time, resources, energy and personal commitment, adding that such sacrifices deserved recognition and prayers for divine acceptance.
Akeugberu urged the former leaders not to withdraw from community service following their exit from office, but to continue making their experience and wisdom available to the Muslim community.
He said, “The progress of the Ummah requires sincerity, unity, perseverance and service,” while encouraging younger Muslims to emulate the dedication demonstrated by the former MUSCOYS leaders.
The Grand Chief Imam also prayed for the former executives, asking Allah to accept their services and sacrifices, forgive their shortcomings and grant them good health and long life.
He further prayed that Allah would continue to make Sanni, Siyanbade, Alaga and other members of the former leadership useful to Islam, the Muslim Ummah and humanity.
Akeugberu cited Qur’an 22:78, which enjoins believers to strive for Allah with the striving due to Him, and Qur’an 2:261, which likens spending in Allah’s cause to a seed that produces multiple ears of grain.
He said the former leaders’ contributions should be viewed within the broader obligation of Muslims to dedicate their resources and abilities to the advancement of the Ummah.
The cleric concluded his message with the Qur’anic supplication in Qur’an 2:127: “Our Lord, accept from us. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”
