In a shocking revelation, Oyo State Police Command has apprehended a man identified as Monday Chukwuka, who reportedly confessed to selling his one-day-old granddaughter to a baby factory located in Abia State for a staggering sum of N700,000.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr. Adebola Hamzat, disclosed that the grandfather, took advantage of his own teenage daughter, Sarah Chukwuka, who had just given birth on July 10.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that Chukwuka pretended to take custody of the newborn, claiming he would entrust her to a caregiver.
He however, cunningly transported the infant to Abia State, where he allegedly sold her to the operator of a notorious baby factory in the Obehi area of Okwa West Local Government.
The arrest, carried out in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies, was a culmination of determined efforts to expose the illicit trade.
Notably, five other individuals were apprehended at the baby factory in connection to the crime, including a female suspect identified as Bunmi.
The raid at the factory further uncovered a bundle of newly issued birth certificates, along with equipment commonly used in labour rooms, underscoring the scale of the operation.
Hamzat revealed that the five additional suspects taken into custody were unable to provide satisfactory explanations regarding the parentage of the numerous babies discovered at the baby factory.
This development raises serious concerns about the wellbeing and origins of these infants, prompting heightened scrutiny into the operations of such establishments.
In a separate case,the Commissioner paraded six more suspects who were apprehended for their involvement in a series of criminal activities including robbery, kidnapping, cultism, and car theft.
The gang, armed with dangerous weapons, reportedly targeted victims in Ibadan, robbing them of valuable items such as expensive mobile phones and laptops.
The suspects allegedly confessed to their crimes and provided information about their past misdeeds at various locations within Oyo State.
The apprehension of the individuals involved in these heinous acts serves as a testament to the ongoing efforts by the Oyo State Police Command to ensure the safety and security of its residents.
These recent events have sent shockwaves through the community and emphasize the need for stringent measures to eradicate such reprehensible criminal activities.
