The Borno State Police Command has explained how Gunmen abducted a High Court judge, Justice Haruna Mshelia along with his wife, orderly, and driver in the Biu Local Government Area of the state.

The spokesman for the police command, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the incident  in a statement made available  to journalists on Monday.

According to Daso, the incident occurred on June 21, 2024, at approximately 9 am along the Biu-Maiduguri Road, specifically at Jiba town.

He added that the  report was received from Sani Audu through the Divisional Officer of Biu.

ASP Daso detailed the police’s immediate response, noting, “We received a report today from one Sani Audu through the Divisional Officer of Biu that on 21st of June, 2024 at about 9 am, the justice with his wife, orderly, and the driver were kidnapped along Biu-Maiduguri Road, specifically at Jiba town.”

In response to this grievous event, the police have launched an intensive investigation aimed at locating and rescuing the abducted individuals.

“The police have commenced an investigation to track the terrorists and ensure the safe release of the judge, his wife, the orderly, and the driver,” Daso stated.

While the police have yet to make contact with the kidnappers, Daso assured that all necessary security measures have been put in place to facilitate the rescue of the victims.

“There has not been any contact with the terrorists, however, the police have put all security measures to see that the victims are rescued,” he said.

Daso added that the  State Police Commissioner has established a Special Investigation Team to handle the case.

He said the  team includes members from the State Intelligence Department and various tactical squads, working in collaboration with other security agencies and the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to him, the  objective is to gather forensic evidence that could lead to the successful location and retrieval of the victims.

Daso added, “The police through the Borno State Police Commissioner has delegated a Special Investigation team which comprises the State Intelligence Department and other tactical squads in collaboration with other security forces and the DSS to see how they can get forensic evidence to enable them to track and retrieve the victims.”
