In a bid to enhance service delivery, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has fervently appealed to residents of Sango-Ota in Ogun State to settle outstanding debts totaling N28 billion.
Mrs. Busolami Tunwase, Lead Media Relation at IBEDC, reiterated this plea during a discussion with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Ota, Ogun.
Highlighting the urgency of the matter, Tunwase emphasized that the company’s ability to provide quality services, including improved and stable power supply, is contingent upon customers promptly clearing their outstanding bills.
The appeal follows an earlier disclosure by Tunwase during a stakeholders meeting on October 11 at Joju, Ota, where she brought to light the substantial debt owed by the Sango/Ota district business.
“We are still appealing to our esteemed customers to urgently pay their bills because what we have gotten is not much, compared to what is still out there,” Tunwase stated, underlining the significance of customer cooperation in ensuring the sustainability of power provision.
Moreover, Tunwase issued a stern warning against any form of assault on IBEDC workers during the discharge of their duties. She cautioned that those found engaging in such activities would face legal consequences.
This warning serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining a harmonious working relationship between customers and utility service providers.
The outstanding debt poses a considerable challenge to the electricity distribution company, hindering its capacity to invest in infrastructure and technology necessary for an efficient power distribution system.
As the call for debt settlement reverberates, the IBEDC hopes that residents will heed the appeal, contributing to the collective effort to enhance the quality of electricity services in the region.
