Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has dismissed rumors circulating about his death, emphasizing that he remains in good health.
Speaking in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, during the inauguration of the reconstructed Old Garage-Oke Fia Road, Obasanjo attributed the rumors to those who harbor ill intentions towards him.
The road project was undertaken by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke as part of his administration’s infrastructure development initiatives.
Addressing the audience in Yoruba, Obasanjo narrated how he learned of the death rumors, which spread widely on social media.
“I was called early in the morning by some people, asking me to check social media,” the retired general said.
“I was surprised when I saw the rumour claiming I had died over the night. I couldn’t believe it.”
Obasanjo said he immediately informed his family and close associates about the false reports to dispel any concerns about his well-being.
“Those that want me dead, that is their wish, but God still keeps me alive. But those who harbour such thoughts will not escape tragedy themselves,” he declared.
In his speech, Governor Ademola Adeleke used the occasion to highlight the progress made by his administration in improving the state’s infrastructure.
“My dear people of Osun state, our administration has constructed over 120 kilometres of roads across the state,” Adeleke said.
He added that two major flyovers in Osogbo are nearing completion, while work continues on the Ile Ife flyover and the Ilesa road dualisation project.
“I have redirected our efforts and plan at the completion of Iwo-Osogbo road. We have added the dualisation of Odoori–Adeeke Road inside Iwo to be executed in two phases. The first phase will reach Post Office and Oluwo Palace, while the second phase will take off from Post Office to Adeeke Junction,” he stated.
The governor assured residents that all projects have been executed without accruing debt.
“I want our people to note for the record that for all our projects and programmes, we did not obtain any loan. We only blocked leakages in the state finance and employed local content to moderate project cost and enforce high standards,” Adeleke said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to completing all ongoing projects before the end of his tenure, promising a balance between infrastructural development and addressing social needs.
“For the second half of our government, I reassure all sons and daughters of Osun that the government under my leadership will complete all ongoing projects,” the governor said.
The event was attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, and residents of Osun State, who hailed the road project as a significant milestone in the state’s development journey.
