The Peoples Democratic Party has met the Independent National Electoral Commission’s deadline to correct the omission of some of its candidates from the list published ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s National Organising Secretary, Captain Umar Bature (retd.), confirmed on Sunday that the PDP completed the necessary corrections before the October 24 deadline stipulated by the electoral commission.
The omissions affected the party’s governorship candidates in Ogun and Gombe states, as well as approximately six or seven candidates contesting seats in various state Houses of Assembly.
Bature confirmed the development in a response to enquiries from Vanguard, saying the party had complied with INEC’s directive within the stipulated period.
“Yes, we met the deadline since,” he said.
The development comes amid preparations by political parties for the 2027 general elections, with the publication of candidates’ lists and the resolution of discrepancies in submitted names forming part of the electoral process.
The omission of candidates’ names from INEC’s published list had raised concerns over the affected PDP aspirants, particularly those seeking governorship tickets in Ogun and Gombe states.
The latest development suggests that the party has taken steps to address the discrepancies within the time allowed by the electoral umpire.
However, details of the specific corrections made, including whether INEC has published an updated list reflecting the affected candidates’ names, were not provided in the party official’s brief confirmation.
The electoral commission is responsible for receiving and publishing candidates’ particulars submitted by political parties in accordance with the relevant electoral guidelines.
