The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ondo State, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, has called for strengthened collaboration between the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and media organisations in the state to enhance voter education and deepen public awareness ahead of forthcoming electoral activities.
Agboke made the appeal on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Akure studio of Fresh FM, where he met with the station’s General Manager, Mr. Dokun Ladele, alongside members of INEC’s management team in the state.
The visit focused on key electoral programmes, including Phase III of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, preparations for the Ondo South bye-election, ongoing political party primaries, and early groundwork toward the 2027 general elections.
The REC stressed that sustained voter education remained critical to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process, noting that media platforms play a strategic role in bridging the information gap between the commission and the electorate.
He therefore urged Fresh FM and other media organisations to intensify partnership with INEC in sensitising citizens on electoral procedures, voter participation, and civic responsibility.
In his response, Mr. Ladele described Dr. Agboke as a “media-friendly REC,” commending his consistent engagement with stakeholders in the communication sector.
Ladele also advocated deeper collaboration between INEC and Fresh FM, particularly through increased participation of commission officials on the station’s programmes to further enlighten the public on electoral matters.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to sustained engagement aimed at promoting credible elections and enhancing citizens’ participation in the democratic process.
