In a recent development, the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured a conviction against Miracle Ezeochia, an internet fraudster, on charges of cheating and impersonation.

The conviction was handed down by Justice N.U. Sadiq of the Kaduna State High Court.

Miracle Ezeochia was arrested following an intelligence report about suspicious online activities linked to internet fraud in Kaduna.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that Ezeochia had created fake profiles on Facebook and Instagram, using the names Muhammed Malik from Qatar and Lucas James Williams to deceive multiple individuals. He managed to swindle $150 from one of his victims.

The charge against him specifically stated that Miracle Ezeochia, also known as Muhammed Malik, committed the offense of cheating by impersonation in October 2022.

He posed as Muhammed Malik on Facebook, engaging in fraudulent activities that led to a $150 loss for Malik Abdul Haseed.

Ezeochia pleaded guilty to the charges, prompting the prosecuting counsel, M.U Gadaka, to request the court to convict him accordingly.

Subsequently, the court sentenced Miracle Ezeocha to two years in prison, with an alternative option of paying a N150,000 fine.

Additionally, as part of his sentence, Miracle Ezeochia will forfeit one Tecno POP 7 PRO smartphone and the sum of $150 USD to the Federal Government of Nigeria through the EFCC.

This conviction serves as a stern warning to individuals engaged in online fraud activities and highlights the EFCC’s commitment to combating cyber crimes in Kaduna and beyond.
