A senior finance operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province has surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno State, as the military intensified its offensive against insurgents in the North-East.
The military said the suspect, identified as the chief finance operative of the ISWAP enclave in Jubillaram, turned himself in at about 6:45 a.m. on July 25 along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis on the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route.
The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command, Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
According to the statement, the suspected terrorist surrendered alongside two male children following sustained land and air operations targeting terrorist enclaves across the region.
The military described the development as another significant operational breakthrough, saying it reflected the impact of ongoing intelligence-driven and kinetic operations against insurgent groups.
Goni said preliminary profiling showed that the suspect managed the financial activities and logistics of the ISWAP enclave in Jubillaram before his surrender.
He added that troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle and ₦40,000 from the suspect.
“The individual is currently undergoing detailed profiling and investigation in line with established procedures,” the statement added.
The military also disclosed that about 46 terrorists and their family members had voluntarily surrendered to troops in recent days, attributing the development to sustained military pressure on insurgent hideouts.
It urged other insurgents still operating in the region to embrace the Federal Government’s non-kinetic initiatives by laying down their arms.
“All remaining terrorists are advised to take advantage of the Federal Government’s non-kinetic initiatives by surrendering before it is too late,” Goni said.
