ISWAP Issues Ultimatum To Kukawa Communities: Leave Or Face Death

The Islamic State – West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have issued a chilling ultimatum to residents of Kukawa Local Government Area (LGA), demanding they vacate their communities or face death.

This threat comes just four days after ISWAP militants brutally murdered fifteen fishermen in the Tumbun Rogo community.

A resident, who escaped to Maiduguri shortly after receiving the threat, shared his harrowing experience with Channels Television on the condition of anonymity.

He recounted that in the early hours of Thursday, ISWAP terrorists gathered residents from various communities within the LGA and ordered them to leave by Saturday, or be killed.

The news of this ultimatum triggered a mass exodus, with many residents fleeing to nearby areas such as Kross Kauwa and Monguno.

The urgency of the situation underscores the persistent threat posed by ISWAP in the region.

Kukawa LGA, located by Lake Chad, is a hub for fishing, farming, and other agricultural activities.

Despite the presence of Nigerian Army and Navy troops, the area remains vulnerable to terrorist attacks.

During the height of the insurgency, several communities were displaced, but under the administration of Professor Babagana Zulum, some stability was restored, and communities like Kross Kauwa, Baga, Doron-Baga, and Tumbun Rogo saw resettlement efforts.

However, the persistent attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists highlight the ongoing struggle for control in this strategically and economically significant region.

The terrorists exploit the area’s fishing and farming activities to sustain their operations and finance their activities, making it a coveted target.
