…Adeleke Wins 19 LGAs As APC’s Oyebamiji Takes 11; INEC Returning Officer Declares Incumbent Elected

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has been declared the winner of the August 15, 2026 governorship election after defeating his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes to retain his seat for another term.
Oyebamiji scored 444,815 votes, while the African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, came a distant third with 17,180 votes.
The final figures gave Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes over Oyebamiji.
The State Returning Officer, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, declared Adeleke the winner at about 7:24am on Sunday at the state collation centre.
Ogunwole said Adeleke had satisfied the requirements of the law and consequently returned him elected.
He said, “That Ademola Nurudeen-Jackson Adeleke, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election and returned elected.”
Adeleke wins 19 LGAs
The official results showed that Adeleke won 19 of the 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11.
Adeleke secured victories in Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo-Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Osogbo and Ila.
Oyebamiji won Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakunmosa East, Atakunmosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun and Obokun, alongside two other local governments reflected in the official 11-LGA tally.
Adeleke’s strongest margins came from areas including Ede North, where he scored 35,427 votes against Oyebamiji’s 10,283, and Ede South, where he recorded 26,188 votes against the APC candidate’s 6,219.
He also won Iwo with 27,085 votes against 19,660 and Osogbo with 36,480 votes against 30,474.
The governor’s performance was also strong in Ife East, where he polled 27,201 votes against the APC’s 18,600, and Egbedore, where he secured 19,278 votes against 11,194.
APC records strongholds
Oyebamiji also posted significant victories, particularly in Irewole, where he scored 29,972 votes against Adeleke’s 10,934.
The APC candidate won Boripe with 19,963 votes against 12,448, while he also secured Ilesa East with 16,208 votes against Adeleke’s 12,280.
In Olorunda, Oyebamiji polled 24,671 votes against Adeleke’s 23,514.
Some of the APC victories were narrowly won. In Isokan, for instance, Oyebamiji scored 14,063 votes against Adeleke’s 13,765.
1,005,800 votes cast
The Returning Officer said a total of 1,010,684 voters were accredited, while 1,005,800 votes were cast.
Of the votes cast, 985,079 were valid, while 20,721 were rejected.
The official figures showed that 207 votes were rejected in the summary read by the Returning Officer, but the stated total of votes cast and valid votes implies a larger rejected-vote figure. PLATFORM TIMES therefore considers the rejected-vote figure requiring clarification from INEC’s official result sheet.
The major candidates’ final scores were:
Ademola Adeleke (Accord): 511,067
Bola Oyebamiji (APC): 444,815
Najeem Salaam (ADC): 17,180
Other parties collectively accounted for the remaining valid votes.
Adeleke returns to office
With the declaration, Adeleke has secured another term as Osun State governor after defeating the APC candidate in a closely contested election.
The result also confirms the strength of Adeleke’s support in several key local government areas, where his large vote margins helped offset APC victories in parts of the state.
The declaration brings to an end the state-level collation of results from the 30 local government areas, with the Independent National Electoral Commission now having formally pronounced Adeleke the winner.
The election was held on Saturday, August 15, with attention now expected to shift to reactions from the parties, candidates and election observers following the official declaration.
