The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced a cash reward for any individual who can provide credible evidence that a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidate was posted to an examination town different from the one selected during registration.
The Board made this known in a statement issued on Saturday by its Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, amid what it described as persistent misinformation regarding its examination centre placement process.
JAMB stressed that contrary to widespread claims, no candidate is assigned to a town different from their preferred choice at the point of registration.
“Some parents are continually being deceived, misled, and duped by their wards and some secondary school proprietors who continue to propagate the falsehood that JAMB assigns candidates to centres outside their chosen examination towns,” the statement read in part.
To tackle the “false but popular narrative,” the examination body said it would offer a cash reward to anyone who could provide verifiable proof that a candidate was assigned outside their selected town.
The evidence, JAMB stated, must be submitted within 96 hours to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) for independent verification via WhatsApp on 08056003030.
The Board further explained that it only assigns candidates to accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres within the towns chosen during registration.
It added that the public should trust the integrity of its operations, insisting it is committed to fairness, transparency, and accountability.
Drawing a comparison to airline operations, JAMB appealed to parents to understand the necessity for candidates to arrive at CBT centres at least 90 minutes before the scheduled examination time to allow for proper pre-examination verification processes.
The Board assured the public of its commitment to ensuring a seamless and credible examination process.
