The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disowned a fraudulent bank account allegedly being used to extort money from candidates who missed the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), warning that scammers are demanding N15,700 for fake rescheduling services.
In a statement released on Thursday, JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, identified the fraudulent account as a Sterling Bank account with the number 8520641017 and the name “Copyrightwriter Personal J Rescheduling Flw”.
He described the scheme as a criminal attempt to defraud unsuspecting candidates.
“We issue this urgent notice to inform the public about this nefarious scheme targeting candidates who were unable to participate in the UTME. Some unscrupulous individuals are deceitfully soliciting payments of N15,700 under the false pretence of offering rescheduling services for the examination,” Benjamin said.
He clarified that JAMB has no relationship with the individuals or entities behind the scam and urged the public to disregard any messages or claims linked to the account.
“The account details provided in these communications are entirely fictitious and bear no connection to any official processes; they exist solely for the purpose of perpetrating fraud. We call upon Sterling Bank to take immediate and decisive action against this criminal activity,” he added.
The Board also disclosed that the matter had been reported to relevant security agencies and efforts were underway to apprehend those behind the scam.
Benjamin emphasized that JAMB does not reschedule examinations for candidates who missed their tests for personal reasons unrelated to the Board.
However, candidates who were unable to sit for the exam due to biometric verification failures are being investigated, and those found eligible would be rescheduled to write the exam at no additional cost.
“It is imperative to understand that JAMB does not charge any fees for examinations after a candidate has completed their registration.
“We strongly urge all candidates to remain vigilant and not succumb to these fraudulent schemes. Protect yourselves and report any suspicious activity immediately,” the statement concluded.
JAMB also appealed to the public to report any attempt to solicit money for exam-related issues, reaffirming its commitment to transparency and fairness in its processes.
