A Nigerian woman, identified as Mrs. Zanga, has narrated the tragic story of her cousin who reportedly died after refusing a blood transfusion due to her religious beliefs as a member of the Jehovah’s Witness church.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Mrs. Zanga disclosed that the deceased, a mother of three, succumbed to health complications on Friday, December 6. The youngest of her children is said to be four years old.
According to the post, the deceased’s refusal of the life-saving procedure was based on the Jehovah’s Witness doctrine, which prohibits its members from accepting blood transfusions.
Expressing frustration and sorrow, Mrs. Zanga described the situation as avoidable, attributing the death to what she termed a “foolish” adherence to religious directives.
“My cousin d!ed this morning, leaving behind 3 kids. The youngest is 4 years old. What killed her? She refused blood transfusions because she’s a Jehovah’s Witness,” Zanga wrote.
Criticizing the role of family dynamics and the church’s influence, she added: “Allowing your wife or sibling to d!e in this big 2024 because a religious organization said you people shouldn’t take blood transfusions is the most foolish death ever.”
The story took another dramatic turn as Zanga revealed details about the deceased’s husband, alleging infidelity and abandonment.
According to her, the man had impregnated another woman and is now living with his mistress.
Despite this, he reportedly upheld the religious prohibition and refused to allow a blood transfusion for his wife.
“The worst thing is that the husband already impregnated someone else and is even living with his mistress but refused blood to be transfused to his wife because of ‘Jehovah’s Witness,’” Zanga lamented.
